Claire Cottrill considers diary 001 to be “a good representation of the last three or four years of me making music and kind of being confused about where I want to land.” Following the breakout success of Pretty Girl, Cottrill felt the need to prove herself in the realm of music - “I really didn’t want Pretty Girl to be the last thing anyone heard from me. I knew that I could do more.” These songs, though different, represent distinct times in her life, as if written in a diary. This EP was written and produced during Cottrill’s freshman year at Syracuse University.
